AirDev is a leader in site-building and no-code development. As they continued to scale, it became more clear that a mature design system (DS) was required to allow for project- and client-level customization and theming. The AirDev development teams curated a robust system of elements, the Canvas Design System, but needed a strategy to ensure style alignment and design cohesion amongst their growing internal design teams and client partners.
In partnership with Mark Steinruck, we developed a Figma distribution strategy for AirDev to allow their newly-formed DS team to own a "central source of truth" that maintained the harmony provided by their Base Template and Module documentation.
Canvas is gearing up to release the next version of their system, accessible by the public for current and future clients alike.
Below is a sampling of that strategy outlining their current processes, the future model, as well as their soon-to-be ecosystem within Figma, and a skeleton breakdown of the Block-layer of their available Modules.
